Join our keepers for three hours packed full of close encounters and fantastic experiences as younger animal lovers get the chance to experience what it’s like to be zookeeper. While they learn about the animals that live in Edinburgh Zoo they will work with a range of animals helping to prepare and deliver their diets, make enrichment and have special hands-on magic moments. Go behind-the-scenes for a unique insight into the daily routines of Zoo life and get your hands dirty – literally!

Please note, if you are looking for a specific date for your experience, please contact us at edz-keeperexperiences@rzss.org.uk before purchasing any vouchers. We require at least 7 days notice for any bookings

Essential information:
  • Vouchers will have a 1 year expiry date and must be booked within 3 months of receiving your voucher.
  • Max 2 people per experience (please note one voucher is required per person).
  • We run the Junior Keeper Experience everyday, dependant on availability.
  • We run a morning and afternoon session, 9am - 12pm or 1:30pm - 4:30pm (the afternoon session runs from 1pm - 4pm during the winter months)
  • Price is per person. Entry to Edinburgh Zoo is included within the price of the Keeper Experience.
  • Experiences are strictly non-refundable.
  • After purchasing the experience, you will be sent details of how to book a date.
  • All orders are sent as an E-Voucher – this reduces our paper use and contributes to the conservation of our environment. We aim to send out all e-vouchers within 2 working days
Restrictions:
  • This experience is available for children aged 8 - 15 years only.
  • Children must be accompanied by a spectating guardian or adult (One parent or guardian will gain free Zoo admission, included in the Keeper Experience price).
  • Please note the accompanying adult may be required to go behind the scenes during the experience with the participant and it is therefore not suitable for the accompanying adult to be supervising another non-participating child.


Regrettably, our Keeper Experiences are not suitable for certain guests including those with any relevant phobias or known allergies; pregnant women; and immunocompromised individuals. Whilst every effort will be made to accommodate those with a disability or learning difficulty, due to practicality and health and safety this may not always be possible.
