This highly anticipated experience will bring you closer than ever before to our Pygmy Hippos with access from our exclusive experience platform! You will spend some time feeding our male hippo Otto before meeting his neighbours, our three leopard tortoises. If you're lucky, our superstar Haggis and mum Gloria might come and say hello too! 
 
Our Pygmy Hippo & Friends Magic Moment voucher includes:

Please note, if you are looking for a specific date for your experience, contact us before purchasing any vouchers. We require at least seven days' notice for any bookings.

Essential information: 

  • Vouchers are valid until October 2025 and can only be booked on specific dates. We advise enquiring about availability as early as possible to avoid disappointment. 
  • Max two participants per experience (please note one voucher is required per person). 
  • We run this experience on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 10am. Please contact us at edz-keeperexperiences@rzss.org.uk to enquire about availability and to book a date. 
  • This experience lasts around thirty minutes (about twenty minutes with Otto and ten minutes with the leopard tortoises). 
  • Price is per person and includes the participant's admission to Edinburgh Zoo. 
  • Keeper Experience vouchers are strictly non-refundable. 
  • All orders are issued as e-vouchers, aligning with our commitment to reduce paper usage and aid environmental conservation. We aim to dispatch all e-vouchers within two business days. 
    Your e-voucher includes instructions on how to book your Keeper Experience. 

Restrictions: 

  • This experience is available for participants aged eight and over. 
  • Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an observing adult who will be required to pay adult zoo admission cost. 

 
Regrettably, our Keeper Experiences are not suitable for certain guests including those with any relevant phobias or known allergies, pregnant, and immunocompromised individuals. Whilst every effort will be made to accommodate those with a disability or learning difficulty, due to practicality and health and safety this may not always be possible.
